ABSTRACT
Digital revolution at work has brought great efficiencies at work, however it has also lead to extreme stress, known as technostress that adversely affect the health and wellbeing of employees. Present study aims to understand the negative effect of technostress and review the role of digital detox policies in mitigating its consequences. The objectives are twin: (1) to study the influence of technostress on mental health, work efficiency, and employee wellbeing, and (2) to investigate the effectiveness of digital detox approaches in easing stress and enhancing wellness at work.
A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology is used and 75 peer-reviewed articles were screened from databases like Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Forty-eight studies met the inclusion criteria, offering empirical and conceptual insights published between 2007 and 2025. Results links techno stressors with negative health effects. The research also emphasises the value of autonomy, mindfulness, organised digital breaks, and organisational support as useful coping strategies. Stress levels are further exacerbated by social and environmental issues, such as inadequate infrastructure, unstable employment, and excessive use of digital devices. According to the data, specialised digital detox strategies can promote eudemonic and hedonic wellness while mitigating the detrimental impacts of continual connectedness. By bringing together disparate works of literature and providing practical solutions to protect workers' well-being in techintensive workplaces, this review adds to the expanding conversation on technology-induced stress.
