MDP on "Operations and Material Management"

Ajay Kumar Garg Institute of Management in association with Ghaziabad Management Association conducted a two-day Management Development Programme on "Operations and Material Management" on November 26-27, 2015.

The program focused on understanding and developing appropriate strategy for materials and operations management. It emphasized on developing skills and competencies concerning operations and inventory management. A host of participants, both senior and middle level, from organizations like Continental Carbon India Ltd., Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd., Albert David Ltd., Urban Feel Organization, MEPS Packaging & Wares Pvt.Ltd. etc. and many others took part in the program. Majority of the participants were from the area of production and operations of various manufacturing set-ups.

The program was inaugurated by Mr.Vinay Gupta, Executive Director, GMA. It commenced with the welcome address by Dr.TR Pandey, Director, AKGIM. The first session of Day 1 on Purchase Management was chaired by CA Neeta Sahu. It was followed by the session on Operations Strategy by Prof.Namita N Kumar, emphasizing the reasons and process of strategizing and shift taking place in operations management in modern organizations. The day ended with a session on Material Requirement Planning by Mr. Hitanshu Maheswari from BEL Ghaziabad. Day 2 of the MDP started with the session on Inventory Management by Dr.Pradip Chanda from NTPC (a regular faculty of Institute of Secretariat Training and Management).

This was followed by an interactive session of Air Cmde P.Singh, on the practical issues emerging in the daily operational schedules of different industries. The final session of the 2 day MDP was conducted by Dr.Ritesh Singhal, discussing PERT/CPM techniques using TORA software.

The entire program was based on participant centered learning (PCL) approach, case studies and usage of new techniques in the area. It concluded with Valedictory Address by Dr.TR Pandey, Director, AKGIM.
